While the degree of second-level protections afforded to legal rights holders by ICANN for new gTLDs may be enough for many organizations, for others there is still a perception that they will need to defensively register their key brands at the second level of new gTLDs.
Join us to debate the limitations of the current level of new gTLD legal rights protections available and contribute to the community discussion regarding what additional protections should be considered by the ICANN community.
Speakers Include:
- Andrew Abrams, Trademark Counsel, Google
- James L. Bikoff, Partner, Silverberg, Goldman & Bikoff, LLP
- Steve DelBianco, Executive Director, NetChoice and Vice Chair Policy Coordination, ICANN GNSO Commercial Business Users Constituency
- Dan Jaffe, Group EVP Government Relations, Association of National Advertisers
- Jon Nevett, Co-Founder, Donuts
- Russell Pangborn, Associate General Counsel – Trademarks, Microsoft
- Craig Schwartz, Director, fTLD Registry Services
- Brian J. Winterfeldt, Partner, Steptoe & Johnston and ICANN GNSO Counselor (Intellectual Property Constituency)
Leaders from the business, intellectual property, marketing and domain community will gather to debate:
- How can ICANN’s minimum legal rights protections for gTLDs be improved?
- Should some organizations qualify for additional protections – and what should the criteria be?
- What steps could be taken to reduce the costs of some of the protection mechanisms or improve the timeliness of protection mechanisms?
- Can additional protections be established without seriously impacting costs for registry operators, registrars, registrants, consumers or affected legal rights holders?
A panel discussion will be moderated by Melbourne IT Chief Strategy Officer, Bruce Tonkin, and will be followed by an open Q&A session to allow all attendees to participate. Following the debate, a cocktail reception will be held from 5pm to provide networking opportunities for delegates.
